Outside Hanoi and its densely populated suburbs stretch picturesque provinces of vast rice fields, where the nation's staple food and one of its most important exports is grown. Green belts of trees and bamboo border the villages, protecting communal
houses and pagodas and temples from the gaze of strangers. It's a world that has been turning inward for centuries, esisting increasing industrialization, because Vietnam has been on the big world supermarket WTO since 2006. Already, the World Trade Organization and the numerous free trade agreements are enforcing their rules in Vietnam as well.
