The Ethnological Museum: Both the architecturally impressive and didactically convincing presentation of this museum, built in 1997 with the help of French scientists, is worth a visit. There is no room for boredom, because for the first time in the country the cultural characteristics of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups are presented in an equal and unprejudiced way. Outside, numerous traditional houses of the minorities have been rebuilt and can be visited from the inside. Ideal for preparation and follow-up for a trip to the hill country or after returning from there.
"The Alps of Tonkin" is what the French called the mountainous landscape in northern Vietnam. The 10-hour train ride to the high-altitude resort of Sapa is a journey into another world. There, trekking tours or jeep rides begin through mountain landscapes with charming rice terraces, to the villages and markets of ethnic minorities. In Sapa itself there are no big sights and also the Black Hmong and Red Dao have long since adjusted to the tourists with their market. Therefore we go out into the untouched country and offer a trekking tour in the mountainous north of Vietnam, a hike through tropical forests down to the Mai Chau valley. You will meet ethnic minorities and stay overnight in a traditional long house of a H'mong family. You can climb the 3143 meter high Fansipan with your own guide, or drive by motorcycle or jeep through a beguilingly beautiful landscape to the Chinese border to visit a traditional market of the Red Dao hill tribe, who respect gods and animals more than ordinances from far away Hanoi. We will be happy to arrange your very own customized tour. (3 days recommended).
