Hue and Hoian

Central Vietnam offers a glimpse into the old world of Vietnam. The colorful tombs on Thuan An beach in Hue, the Cham ruins in My Son, or the architectural diversity of the port city of HoiAns. If you don't let yourself be rushed from one tourist attraction to the next mass photo shoot, you can experience something: the divine chanting of the Thien An monks, the folklore-free cuisine of Central Vietnam, or the inimitable architecture of HoiAn. So, if you have time, extend your trip to the center a bit in front or behind (for example with a 3-4 day beach vacation) and use this two-day offer as a transfer between north and south.

You will be picked up at Hue airport and transferred to your hotel. The next day, meet your tour guide at the hotel at 8:30am. You will go by boat on the Perfume River to two royal tombs, Minh Mang Pagoda and Khai Dinh Pagoda. Afterwards, you will go by car (7-seater Toyota) to Thien An Monastery, where the Catholic monks living there will sing a truly divine chant around 11 am. You will not find this visit in any guidebook, as the Catholics are harassed by the government and tourism is not wanted there. The monks sell homemade grape liqueur and bee honey. By car you will go to the city center, where you will have small specialties from Hue in a tourist-free restaurant. Afterwards, you will visit the citadel, which is currently being lavishly restored by UNESCO. "Ancient Hue", is located just outside the citadel. There a rich Vietnamese has invested in beautiful architecture. At the same time, this is an appealing restaurant, which could possibly be considered for an evening visit, away from the crowds of tourists in the center. Not far from here is the Buddhist Thien Mu Pagoda, where there is also that Austin with which a monk drove to Saigon in 1963 to set himself on fire in protest against the Buddhist persecution by the Ngo Dinh Diem regime. Around 16.30 by car or boat back to the hotel.

The following day, accompanied by your tour guide, you will leave around 9am by private car over the Cloud Pass towards HoiAn. You will pause at Cloud Pass, for a Vietnamese coffee and enjoy the picture book view of DaNang Bay, where the Americans landed in 1965. A visit to the Cham Museum, with the most beautiful collection of Cham statues in Vietnam is worthwhile. And further on the trip goes to Hoi-An. For lunch, "Minh Vinh" awaits you, a small idyllic restaurant between freshwater river and sea: from both is served, in a most sophisticated way. In the afternoon you will learn about the enchanting atmosphere of HoiAn with your tour guide. In the late afternoon you will check in at your hotel.
